2.2 Ten affirmations on justice, peace and the integrity of creation
Introduction
In this world marked by injustice, violence and degradation of the environment
we want to reaffirm God's covenant which is open to all and holds the promise
of life in wholeness and right relationships. Responding to God's covenant we
profess our faith in the Triune God who is the very source of communion.
Our response to the covenant today leads us to make the following affirmations
on urgent issues where justice, peace and the integrity of creation are at stake.
They represent firm convictions that have grown out of years of ecumenical dialogue
and struggle.
We make these affirmations as Christian people aware that many people of living
faiths and ideologies share these concerns with us and are guided by their understanding
of justice, peace and the integrity of creation. We therefore seek dialogue
and cooperation with them, guided by a vision of the new future which is necessary
for the survival for our planet.
We can only make these affirmations as we acknowledge our shortcomings and
failures and commit ourselves anew to the reality of God's reign. This means
to resist in thought, word and action the powers of separation and destruction
and to live in active solidarity with the suffering people.
